The month of fashion (aka September) is here and quite literally it's arrived in Denver. Unless you’ve been living under a rock - which quite frankly I feel most of us have been due to COVID, you may have just noticed a very exciting addition to the Cherry Creek Shopping Center.
Hermès, the French fashion house has relocated to the top floor or the Cherry Creek Shopping Center, and believe me - it’s 3,445 square feet of luxury goods heaven. Now, this isn’t just any old Hermès store (not that you could ever say that of course), this particular boutique has been designed specially to evoke Colorado’s natural beauty through the use of rugged and thoughtfully treated materials whilst encompassing the spirit of France.
“It has been said of Hermès,” The New York Times reported in 1940, “that it is perhaps the only establishment in the world in which one cannot buy a single article that is not in perfect taste.” If you’ve ever had the pleasure of shopping with Hermès you will know that this statement rings incredibly true. Denverites take heed - set the leggings aside Darlings, it’s time to step things up… Parisian style.
This is the world’s first Hermès to have an open fireplace in the dreamiest equestrian setting. It feels private, cozy, and extremely inviting to lounge in - I grew up around horses and a roaring open fireplace, so I just fell in love. I sank into the armchairs and soaked up the atmosphere in all of its luxurious glory. I adore the fact that the store’s façade and interior design was made using Ceppo di Gre, a conglomerate material that naturally fuses rocks, minerals, and crystals in stone, sourced locally from Colorado which interestingly added charm despite the cold and hard texture - creating the perfect ambiance.
As you may know, Hermès is a brand with which timelessness is valued over trend. Most people are more familiar with the luxury brand due to its accessories, the Birkin bag, for example, is easily one of the most iconic bags in the universe of fashion; Queen Elizabeth II favors the house’s printed silk scarves; Jackie O carried the Constance sack; however, whilst we are all aware of the power of the brand’s accessories, I’m here to expand our horizons and talk Ready To Wear.
I was sent two looks from the Fall Winter 2020 collection and was beyond excited to see what we were all in store for this Autumn. Nadège Vanhee-Cybulski, the Creative Director for RTW has given Hermès a reputation for fashion-forward pieces that maintain the brand’s highly luxurious feel. She’s got an incredibly unique knack for taking age-old details and reinventing pieces in a structured, yet modern way. For this season, I discovered the use of leather in a multitude of manners -not just in the form of the brand's iconic accessories. An example of this being this season's coat of dreams. Houndstooth in grey and chocolate add the perfect backdrop to structured leather detailing, synched at the waist for a timeless yet contemporary feel.
I’m not the best around anything that needs to be kept pristine but, as much as I hate to admit it, now is the time to be bold, brave, and well, embrace the power of white. White garments are used as a base this season whilst incorporating primary colors to create looks that feel elevated. Think about relaxed separates that you might already wear in everyday life — with an upgraded feel. A bright red shirt - which I wore as a dress, I styled underneath an oversized white jacket. This gave me the idea for a styling trick that we all can take advantage of when feeling uninspired with a neutral look, add an accessory in saturated color. It instantly livens up any outfit and creates a contrasting, mod-like vibe.
All items will be in store this fall - dust off your credit card and get shopping. You can thank - or curse me later.
