Cherry Creek Fashion: Let’s start with the basis! What is microblading?

Kai Bauer: Microblading is a semi-permanent tattoo that creates hair-like strokes in the eyebrows. The technique is done by using a handheld tool that holds super fine needles on the end to implant the pigment under the skin.

CCF: Describe the process of getting your eyebrows done.

KB: The first step of the process is to determine if you’re a candidate for microblading. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding are not candidates and will have to wait until they are done nursing to have the service done. If you use Botox, it is recommended to schedule your microblading appointment two weeks before your next injections. Since microblading can correct asymmetry, it’s best for me to work on skin that hasn’t been manipulated by Botox. The second step is coming in for a consultation so that I can answer any questions you may have in regards to microblading. During the consultation, we will fill in your eyebrows so that you can get an idea of what the new shape and color will look like. The third step is the procedure! The initial appointment is scheduled for 2 hours.  I will map out the desired shape, tweeze/wax any unwanted hairs, and then we are off to the races! After the procedure is over, Aquaphor is applied to the brows. Aquaphor is going to be your best friend for the next 6 weeks. The key to maintaining your brows is to keep them nice and moisturized through the whole healing period (6 weeks). After the 6 weeks mark, you will come in for a touch-up. Touch-ups are so important to the longevity of your brows because it fills in any pigment that may have been lost during the healing process. Also, the touch-up appointment is way easier than the first application and is usually only about an hour long.

CCF: What are the benefits of microblading?

KB: I think the biggest benefit of getting microblading done, is that you wake up with brows every morning! Microblading cuts your getting ready time in half. No more worrying about if your brows are even or if that pomade you used to fill in your brows is going to sweat off during your hot yoga class.

CCF: For brides now planning their weddings, why is microblading a good choice?

KB: For the brides to be, coming in 7 weeks before your wedding allows enough time for your first application and the following touch up, which means flawless brows for your big day. Brides want to look their absolute best on their wedding day and the right makeup is key. Since microblading enhances the look and defines the shape of the eyebrows, it’s just one less thing to worry about!

CCF: How often do you have to do the microblading process?

KB: How often you get microblading done really depends on how well you take care of your brows. After both applications, you can’t get your brows wet for a week. I know this is normally the part where someone screams “a whole week? How am I supposed to wash my hair?” I like to tell my clients during the consultation that they will need to wash their hair the day of the application and from then on, use dry shampoo or visit a hair salon for a nice shampoo/blow-dry. In fact, we now have a hair salon inside Live Love Lash and those girls would be more than happy to give you a blowout! I also suggest makeup wipes for that week so that you can avoid water around the brows all together. For my athletes, I know not working out for a week is out of the question, so I recommend doing weights instead and passing on the cardio and hot yoga. Sweat has sodium in it and not only will it push out the pigment in your brows but it will also cause premature fading. If you follow the aftercare sheet and come in for your touch up, brows can last anywhere from 6-18 months before needing another touch-up.
