TIP 1: Get a game plan with your partner
Is this going to be a surprise? Or are you designing the ring together?
Consider a hybrid approach that helps narrow the options for your partner to pick and surprise you with a ring.
How much are you comfortable spending?
TIP 2: Do your browsing
What styles catch your eye?
Look at the ring setting as well as the diamond shape.
What shape and size look best on your finger? Be sure to try on lots of styles, shapes, and sizes.
What do you want your wedding stack to look like all together?
Make sure you think about the wedding band when designing your engagement ring as this impacts the style of ring you should pick. Some styles are better for stacking, while others are better to stand alone.
Also, consider if you’d like to add other bands to it down the road. 1-year, 5-year, 10-year anniversaries, baby push gifts, or other special occasions can be additional bands you add later.
Tips for ladies: Make it easy for him to know your dream ring! Send him photos of what you like and make sure he knows your ring size!
TIP 3: Decide on what materials would you like to use
Do you want Yellow gold, White gold, or Platinum? Maybe you want a mix?
Do you want a natural diamond, lab grown diamond or another gemstone?
Do you want a white stone? Or colored stone?
TIP 4: Find a jeweler that educates you, understands what you are looking for, and makes you feel comfortable
You should never feel rushed or pushed into something you are 100% sure about.
