What The Stylists & Editors Are Wearing This Season
This month, six stylists and fashion editors share their picks for the season, trends they are loving and give style advice for the cold winter months ahead.
Name: Kiri Morken
Occupation: I am the Wardrobe Stylist for the national daytime show Daily Blast Live
Favorite Fall/Winter Trend: Long statement coats. I love funky large prints and exaggerated textures!
How would you describe your style: Eclectic with a touch of the unexpected.
What items will you be wearing on heavy rotation this season: My black leather moto jacket and minimalist sneakers.
What new item will you be incorporating into your wardrobe this season: I've been waffling between two pairs of black, lace-up Doc Martens for a few years now, and I think it's time to commit!
Any advice for our readers on staying stylish during the snowy months ahead: Winter weather can sometimes take the fun out of getting dressed! Try out pairing cozy, over-sized knit sweaters with black jeans or wide-leg pants. For those extra cold days, layer up with long underwear! Top it off with a big scarf and a weatherproof pair of flat boots or a lug sole heeled bootie.
Name: Jennifer Tom
Occupation: Fashion Editor, 303 Magazine
Favorite Fall/Winter Trend: I'm dying for the Bourgeoisie trend! The sharp tailoring and materials like tweed remind me of a '70s style maven at a country club. It's somehow aristocratic and fun at the same time.
How would you describe your style: Haphazard. I'm so passionate about so many styles that I like to have intention but stay fluid.
What items will you be wearing on heavy rotation this season: Loafers, plaid, animal print anything and lots of leather outerwear.
What new item will you be incorporating into your wardrobe this season: I just splurged on an over-sized, baby-soft cowl neck sweater that screams cold weather happiness.
Any advice for our readers on staying stylish during the snowy months ahead: It sounds too sensible to be truly fun and fashion-forward but good all-weather boots are everything and Sorel makes the cutest ones. When you wear a stylish pair of boots that are also functional, the entire outfit comes together in a way that says you've conquered Colorado style.
Name: Rachel LeFort
Occupation: Personal Fashion Stylist
Favorite Fall/Winter Trend: I always love when tailoring and suiting come back in style (even though it never actually leaves!) And I love the tailoring combined with the fun of animal prints this season.
How would you describe your style: Class with an edge.
What items will you be wearing on heavy rotation this season: Blazers. I love layering in the fall.
What new item will you be incorporating into your wardrobe this season: I’m in the market for a chic new outerwear coat.
Any advice for our readers on staying stylish during the snowy months ahead: Be intentional with your outerwear. The cold weather is here, so make an effort to shop and plan the coat, gloves, hat and scarves you feel good in, that flatter your figure and personal coloring, so that they’re ready to go on cold mornings, knowing you’ll be stylish. If you’re dressed up underneath you'll want to complete (not kill) the look, but also you can rock a simple outfit like jeans and a turtleneck with a killer statement wool coat and chic gloves.
Name: Raada Schroedter
Occupation: Fashion Stylist & Wardrobe Consultant
Favorite Fall/Winter Trend: Leather on Leather. Try out leather dress or leather pants | shorts with leather blouse- you’d definitely make a powerful statement with this Trend.
How would you describe your style: I believe in finding your own Style and being very selective about trends. I’m definitely into clean lines, minimalism and color blocking. But the best definition of my style is the ‘master of layering’
What items will you be wearing on heavy rotation this season: I’ll definitely be wearing a lot my new Camel H-line Coat, some over-sized fluffy sweaters and of course my favorite Biker Boots.
What new item will you be incorporating into your wardrobe this season: I’m dying to freshen up my looks with pale blue faux snakeskin knee-high boots!!!
Any advice for our readers on staying stylish during the snowy months ahead: Trends are exciting but don’t forget to stay warm and true to yourself! Make layers your best friend. To look sophisticated I’d recommend to remember about the classic rule of using only three different colors in your Look. And please don’t overload your appearance with too many accessories. Less is more.
Name: Koya Nyangi
Occupation: Fashion stylist and writer.
Favorite Fall/Winter Trend: I am not very keen on trends but if I were to choose one, I would lean towards something that is classic and timeless; the prep school vibe. I can foresee a whole suiting situation with lots of houndstooth, checks, plaids and let’s not forget the power shoulders.
How would you describe your style: I still haven’t found the words that I think truly reflect it or the box I want to begrudgingly lock myself into, so I think we shall go with I love mixing in a little bit of everything. I love creative dressing, taking clothes out of their context and giving them a different spin. My style sense is very ‘let me show you different’, wearing it differently strikes my eyes and satisfies my style pallet.
What items will you be wearing on heavy rotation this season: Printed, colorful outfits and lots of boots boots boots!!!
What new item will you be incorporating into your wardrobe this season: I have been looking for the perfect orange highlighter long hem coat. If I happen to find it, we shall be adding this particular item to my growing collection of jackets.
Any advice for our readers on staying stylish during the snowy months ahead: Layer with colors. I think we tend to gravitate to muted tones during winter but whip out all the colors because they have a way to make you feel all warm and sunshiny from the inside out while curating very stylish looks. Let the colors be the accessories for your look. Let’s face it winter fashion can be dull, so you might as well have fun with color when you dress up your look.
Name: Tatsu Ogata
Occupation: I’m one of the owners and consultants at Captivation Consulting, an image consultant agency that helps individuals with personal branding and appearance. I’m also the general manager and suit designer at Icon Suit in Cherry Creek, specializing in custom menswear.
Favorite Fall/Winter Trend: I really love seeing more green and orange colors coming out in men’s suiting and I’m also a big fan of the felt hat trend that has been going on for both men and women. I really feel it’s a great look and it really shows each person’s style and character while adding a fantastic accessory to any wardrobe. Besides, the fall season is just a great time for layering and for earth tone colors that have a really good warmth to them. I highly encourage everyone to try new things and be creative.
How would you describe your style: Oh wow, this is actually a hard question to answer because I don’t know if I have any one style. For the most part, I’m very classic and bespoke with my suiting. I like to wear things that are made for me and with a great classic look because classics never go out of style. Don’t get me wrong, I also wear some really bold colors and patterns that are trendy and in the moment because I like it, but I mostly keep it classic. I’m also very rakish or rock star if you will with some street elements when I’m dressed down and a lot of that is probably due to my many years as a musician and being an artist. No matter what I’m wearing, I always feel confident and I like making a statement. I like to break away from norm and stand out a little in today’s world.
What items will you be wearing on heavy rotation this season: It would have to be my green, burgundy, and rust colored suits and sport jackets probably mixed with some dark to navy blues and a great camel color overcoat. As well as a dark wash denim or sued bomber jacket, classic crew neck shirt and distressed jeans with a great pair of brown or black boots.
What new item will you be incorporating into your wardrobe this season: It definitely has to be the dark and fall colored felt hat. Perfect for my suiting and my dressed down looks. Like I mentioned before, in my opinion it’s a really solid accessory to add to your wardrobe this season.
Any advice for our readers on staying stylish during the snowy months ahead: Make sure you’re layering correctly, pick some items that not only look good but will keep you warm as well. Always make sure you have a great heavy jacket that stays in some basic colors to insure it will go with almost everything in your wardrobe. Such as black, gray, brown and navy blue. Finally, the next must have for snowy weather is a great pair of boots. I can not stress enough how important it is to have a pair of boots to not only look good, but to also keep you from slipping on the icy walkways.
