How To Make Your Home & Garden Summer Ready by Emily Tucker
Over the last three months, we have spent countless hours at home and as the country slowly opens up, we will still be looking at the world from our windows. Its summer and it’s time for that house and garden refresh. Interior Designer Emily Tucker of Emily Tucker Design shares 5 tips for getting your house and garden summer ready. Emily Tucker Design is skilled working in a variety of styles, and rather, pays attention to the principles of scale, color and pattern. She believes that the job of a designer, is to take the personality of the client and house, and filter that through her design lens, to create spaces that are as perfectly suited to the people who inhabit them. While honoring history, location and architecture, Emily enhances a house’s natural spirit while crafting well-balanced, comfortable spaces that reflect a client’s lifestyle and needs.
TIP 1
Change out your bedding: As those temperatures warm up, I like to change out my bedding, Lighter weight duvet, linen sheets, and store away the heated mattress pad (yes I have a heated mattress pad, and I'm fairly obsessed with it so if you don't have one, I recommend getting one).
TIP 2
Grow and edible garden: Is there anything better than cooking with produce that you grew yourself? I think not! If you have space, get a raised planter box, fill it up with some nice soil, and plant it with your favorite herbs and vegetables. Gardening can seem so daunting, but I promise you, once you start, you will so glad you did.
TIP 3
Freshen up your outdoor space with new accessories: Every summer, my outdoor pillows and rugs get quite the beating. Kids, parties, pets; they all take their toll so I like to bring in some new accessories every spring to freshen up my spaces. Target has some amazing, well priced, and fun accessories!
TIP 4
Get out the cocktail shaker and invest in some fun barware to pour those cold drinks in. I don't know about you, but I love a frothy cold cocktail. Margaritas, Frose; sign me up! Here are some barware recommendations:
TIP 5
Get grilling: I cook A LOT. And when it’s warm, the grill is fired up for lunch and dinner almost every day. You don’t need much more than a good pair of tongs and some pretty platters (and some great recipes of course). Here are some of my favorite tools:
